Once again, we planned an entire trip around seeing a building. This time, we went to see the Kimbell Museum by the great Louis Kahn. While the main impetus for the trip to Dallas was architecture, we had an absolute blast while we were there. Not only were there lots of art and architecture to see, Texas itself was tons of fun. It's just such a different world out there. The way of life there is as strange to me as any foreign country. Maybe stranger, because it's right here!

Technically I've been to Dallas before, but that time I literally flew in, got whisked off to see a hockey game, had dinner, and flew out—didn't see a damn thing. A shame, too, because now I realize how much I had missed. I would love to spend more time exploring the state of Texas in the future.

And I know I say this a lot, but Texans really are the warmest, friendliest people I've ever met anywhere. I mean they are not just friendly, they are friendly. It's almost too much for a jaded New Yorker like me to bear.
